Carol started making pictures as a way to “capture” landscapes as she painted in oil. Her photos enabled her to capture the moment and study the light, color and composition of a scene. She would then then go back to her studio and paint it on canvas. Other times she would create a quick field-study in paint; but the photos enabled the best study of the light and shadows that make up a painting. Thus, Carol developed a photographic eye. She began to understand how cameras and film capture light and color. To enhance her understanding, Carol studied photography at Napa Valley College with instructors such as Chuck Stefanetti and Ron Rogers. Here she learned the mechanics of photography and how to make good pictures in the field. Like painting, she realized that photography is an ongoing learning process.
